Go, Dog. Go! Review

To say that the Chicago Children's Theatre's inaugural season has been a boon to children's theater in the city would be an understatement. And with the company's latest production, Go, Dog. Go!, it is evident that the CCT has a firm grasp on the minds and imaginations of Chicago's adults and children alike.

Staged in a circus tent in Butler Field, in the middle of Grant Park, Go, Dog. Go! doesn't have a particularly complex story line. It follows the P.D. Eastman classic book fairly closely, and its readers will remember that it's basically just a bunch of dogs having fun and throwing a huge party in a tree at the end. But the show's simplicity is also what makes it such a spectacle: the acrobatic feats and physical humor leave even the sourest of adults laughing, and audience participation (ranging from beach ball play to clapping along) ensures kids won't get antsy.

The show runs about 90 minutes, with one 15-minute intermission. Concessions are provided by Starbucks, and the climate-controlled tent features seating in the round; there isn't a bad seat in the house.
