Hi everyone! Red Kite/Blue Moon, our latest installment in the Red Kite Project, has come and gone, but we thought you'd like to hear some of the great things parents and participants had to say about it.  We've listed some of our favorite quotes below.

From all of us at [this organization], thank you for your hard work, creativity, and passion for enriching the lives of those we serve through the arts.”

“I was very happy seeing them happy, engaged, and comfortable throughout the entire play.”

“Jason really had fun at your show and everyone made him feel very comfortable.”

“My son said, ‘This is the best thing that ever happened to me!'”

“Stay longer in Chicago!”

“We'd love to have it as weekly therapy!”

“I have sat through and been involved in countless hours of therapy since my son was a baby, so I can't describe the feeling I had as a parent watching my son participate in a show put on especially for him that not only could he understand but incorporated everything he enjoys, knows, and can talk about after words. It was truly incredible.”

“It was good to just let him be himself; it is hard to take him places without getting the ‘look' from others who don't know him. Thank you so much; you and the actors are wonderful!”

“iSailor managed James beautifully. Please extend my thanks to him!”

“We almost decided not to take our son to the Red Kite performance, but are so glad that we did. It was so fun to see him have a good time and interact with the performers.”

“Everyone, including the parents, could relax and be themselves and just enjoy [the performance]. It was like you could feel a collective sense of relief…Thank you thank you thank you for giving us this wonderful opportunity.”

“Thank you very much for this experience. Hopefully more people will realize that people with autism and their families need to have these special activities/performances.”

“My students were COMPLETELY engaged/enthralled with the performance! My students knew of the characters from the social story. It was like being in a Nickelodean episode for them.”

“Nothing took the actors by surprise. They were great with the kids. We never find anything geared specifically for our kids. It was amazing and we didn't feel like we stood out or needed to apologize for their behavior.”

“I cannot put into words what a wonderful experience my son and I had. He LOVED it! The show was so wonderful that I teared up twice during the performance. I could barely get out ‘thank you' to the performers because I was so speechless after the show!”

“Awesome!! Ben had a great time, and so did we! It was great to allow him to ‘be himself' instead of always re-directing him to sit and be quiet. He was all smiles…something we rarely see!! Everyone who worked on the RK project was so professional and didn't judge Ben. It was refreshing to have him feel welcomed to a place. Usually we get the ‘evil eye.' I can't say enough!!”

“Just continue to make performances like this to kids with autism, and try to make this available to other communities in other states—there is such a great need for productions like this!”

“It was better than anything that I could have imagined. The cast was awesome; it was simply magical. I felt that I was in the middle of something almost magical. This was phenomenal. I thank you for the production and the opportunity for my family to experience it. It was very emotional and incredible.”

“The time and care the cast showed towards the children was well respected and I would like to thank them for all that they have done to give kids with autism something special for them to enjoy.”

“It was an amazing feeling as a parent who has a special needs child to be able to sit back and enjoy a wonderful show without judgment. I had to fight the tears because I was so proud that these performers seemed to GET autism. They were talented, compassionate, kind, and just amazing.”

“We cannot express enough how wonderful this day was for our family. It's rare that we are able to attend something as a family. Usually, it's too difficult for Parker. To feel that unity just made me cry. It was great. Thank you so much.”

“I have two children with autism and each was completely able to engage in his own way. It was obvious that the actors had spent time around a lot of kids on the spectrum.”

“We were very impressed with how well-versed everyone was with Autism. It really made this experience a success.”

“Both my sons were very engaged and truly enjoyed the performance. They have asked several times whether we could go see Red Kite/Blue Moon again. My older son wrote a little essay for his Kindergarten class about the performance and showed off his passport. You truly made a lasting impression.”

“I want to thank you and all the performers for providing a wonderful experience for all our boys. Justin, our little one, was talking about Wings and the Captain the entire ride back to Palatine. Martin was having a very difficult day at school. His teacher called me concerned that going to Navy Pier may be too much for him today. Martin was fantastic and seemed to be in a great mood all night long. I was told that Dave was smiling the entire ride home. Rex kept saying in his excited voice, “No! You can't go to the moon. Are you going to the moon or not?” And I think my favorite was when we were about to get onto I-90, Jamari turned around to look out the back window of the van and said, ‘Goodbye Chicago, good bye Red Kite Project."

Many thanks to everyone involved!  It sounds like you loved it as much as we did.

Until next time,

Chicago Children's Theatre
